Hello and welcome to St. Joan of Arc Catholic School! My name is Mr. Chris Vos and I'm principal of St. Joan of Arc. I'm delighted that you've taken the time to "surf the web" and find out more about our school.
In 2007-08, St. Joan of Arc School celebrated 50 years of Catholic Education in the Archdiocese of Omaha. Begun by the Mercy Sisters, SJA School continues today to celebrate the success of our school with daily school prayer to our patron saint, Joan of Arc. Along with a strong K-8 academic program, we also have a 3 and 4 year old preschool program.
Students at SJA School find a curriculum woven around the Gospel teachings of the Catholic Church. Faculty work hard to ensure all students are successful, both in the academic standing as well as within their social interactions with others.
Along with the core subjects of Religion, Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies, students also have music, computer, PE and library classes. Homeroom teachers also teach art classes to students. This past year we have renewed our interest in providing the best reading program we can for our students. Our faculty have also adopted a renewed emphasis on all students using the 6 traits of writing model throughout the school year.
Students are also able to participate in a number of extra-curricular activities including a parish program of volleyball, basketball and soccer. Students can also participate in school/archdiocesan programs such as Spelling Bee, Geography Bee, Modern Woodmen Speech Contest, Bible Bowl and the Archdiocesan Math contest.
During the 2006-07 school year, the 1st Annual Crusade for Excellence Development Dinner was held. A fantastic turnout was had and a net profit of $58,000 was raised. The proceeds have gone towards the purchase of a new reading series, tuition assistance and the upgrade of the school's technology program. Our computer lab has been updates with brand new computers and flat screen monitors. Our homeroom teachers have also received laptops to use to enhance their level of instruction in all curricular areas
Our 2nd Crusade for Excellence Dinner raised over $45,000. Funds have been allocated for the purchase of a new math and Religion series for grades K-8, new Geography books for middle school, new computers for all classrooms and three Promethean Boards.
St. Joan of Arc School is a great place and great things are happening. Again, we are pleased you have decided to check us out and if you should have any questions, please feel free to contact me either by phone (393-2314) or email (cvos@sjaomaha.org). I look forward to hearing from you and sharing with you all the great things about SJA!
Peace - Mr. Vos
